Bernard was born in Lausanne, Switzerland. He learnt classical piano from the age of seven but most of his time was spent improvising, teaching himself music theory, composing and, as soon as he had his first computer, experimenting with music technology. He always had various interests and in high school he specialized in Mathematics and Physics but he always knew that his heart was leading him towards music and more particularly towards composition.

After high school he had to join the Swiss military during one year. Being away from any musical activity did not undermine his love for music. On the contrary, when he came back home he decided to use the money he just earned to get music lessons. Even though he didn’t have much experience, people understood soon that he could be trusted and he received his first commissions including a 6 voices piece for the “Chœur de la Basilique” choir in Lausanne. Bernard’s love for movies, artistic collaboration and music technology led him naturally towards film music. After reviewing different colleges he came to the conclusion that Berklee College of Music was the perfect place to pursue his education. He applied and was admitted in 2013. He is currently in his sixth semester and plans to major in film scoring and composition.

“Strive for excellence” could be Bernard’s motto. Whether it’s concert music or film music he always tries to bring the best. Each composition is for him a opportunity to explore new ways of expression that challenge himself as well as the listeners, but he also try to write music that brings something to the audience and that the performers enjoy playing.

Bernard is convinced that to succeed the contemporary musician has to excel in various fields. He decided to add a conducting minor to his two majors and he constantly work on improving his skills in music technology. He always wants to learn more and among other skills he knows how to record and mix scores at a professional level. He excels also in the art of music engraving and is fluent in several programming languages allowing him to create scripts and programs that improve greatly his workflow as a film composer.

Since he joined Berklee, Bernard had the possibility to work on several projects on his own or with other students as a composer, as a pianist, as an audio engineer, music engraver, as a web designer and as a video editor. In Fall 2016 Bernard became the Assistant Conductor of the Berklee Contemporary Orchestra. He rehearses weekly the ensemble in the absence of Music Director Francisco Noya. He is also part of the team of composers and conductors for the 2016-2017 season of the Berklee Silent Film Orchestra and after the two Boston shows in 2016 he will tour with them across the country.

Bernard is known as someone reliable whom you can count on and he will keep working hard to remain worthy of this confidence. He commits to the projects he is involved in, even if it means conducting a Flash Mob with a Full Orchestra in Prudential Center or Silent Film shows with a broken collarbone and a broken jaw as it happened in Fall 2016. He will always try to get the best of what he has and the videos of this flash mob has already been seen more than 80,000 times despite the fact that there was absolutely no budget and everything was done by students!
